our lawn maintenance
Lawn Maintenance includes a lawn analysis, fertilizing, weed control and insect and disease control. We also offer lawn mowing and bush hog services.
Lawn Analysis
One of our expert lawn care specialists will examine your lawn to evaluate its current condition. Our professional will determine the lawn's nutritional needs and any special problems that may exist. Our analysis will identify the following:
- Grass type - Identifing the varieties of grass in your lawn helps to determine the best course of fertilization based on turf type.
- Disease - Turf disease can appear overnight and is generally related to weather along with watering and fertilization practices.
- Insects - Insects can destroy a lawn in a matter of days. An infestation is often not visible until extensive damage is done.
- Broadleaf weeds - Broadleaf weeds (many varieties) will appear in your lawn at various times of the year.
- Turf density, sun or shade - Thick lawns prohibit weed growth besides being attractive. Grass will grow differently in areas depending on available light. One variety grows in shade, while another demands bright sun.
Lawn Fertilization, Weed Control and Insect and Disease Control
Barnes generally recommends a four-application comprehensive treatment program to yield the best results. If your lawn has special needs we may recommend specific supplimental applications. Or you can choose which of the treatments you want for your lawn. Our normal four application treatment program includes:
- Early Spring: A heavy dose of balanced fertilizer is crucial for rapid spring green-up. In addition, a pre-emergent weed control is applied to stop the formation of crabgrass, foxtail and other undesirable grassy weeds.
- Late Spring: Balanced fertilizer and broadleaf weed control is applied after a constant temperature of 55 degrees or above is reached. This treatment controls weeds between early spring and summer and enhances the attractive appearance of your lawn.
- Summer: Balanced rate of fertilizer along with broadleaf weed control. Diseases, weeds and insects flourish in summer heat, therefore it is a critical time to control them. Insecticide will be included in this application only if necessary and with customer approval.
- Fall: A heavier strength fertilizer that promotes root growth is applied to prepare the lawn for the winter's harshness and to encourage early spring green-up. Broadleaf weed control is included in this application to combat any stubborn weeds that still exist.
We recommend the entire four application treatment program to achieve optimum results. However, you may choose to have only one or any combination of the treatments described above. Weather, frequency and volume of irrigation, activity on the lawn (causing soil compaction) all will have an effect on the appearance of your lawn.
Other Lawn Treatment Options:
- Insecticide & Disease Control - Treatment is recommended for disease and/or insect infestation ONLY when a problem exists. Free consultation is available between applications.
- Granular/Dry Fertilizer Application - For customers who prefer lawn fertilizer without weed killer added.
